When I was finishing up my top, and tested the drains and found out the drain is disconnected.
Water dumped in comes out the rocker panel, not the drain. So today I gotta figure out how to reconnect. But before I do, should I dump some rust converter down there to get to wherever the water went?

I did that once before, tried to jam a wad of towel paper with a wire down the drain tube and ended up disconnecting the tube from the scoop. Fixing it requires removing the scoop
and the tube (the latter may come out through
the rocker panel), assembling them outside of the car, and then installing them back as one unit. You will need to unbolt the top from the pillars
at the hinges, but fortunately the rain rail and the back of the top don’
t need to be removed.

Oh, and re. the water already dumped, once you remove the scoop you might be able to get a rag on a stick* down there and use a hair drier to dry it up.
* yes, it’s a Simpsons reference.

Trying it first without unbolting the top, since I literally just installed the damn thing. How ddid you get it back in?

After putting them together, the scoop and tube go back in together from above, tube first. They need to get wiggled a bit to get the tube’s bottom end into the hole in the rocker panel. Once the goes through the hole the scoop will sit level into its place, and then you can screw it back on.
Leaving the top in place for this allows practically no room to install them, or even to get the scoop out in the first place. Even if you can find the space, you’ll spend more time mane
uvering the parts around than what it takes to unbolt the top’s
frame and bolt it back in afterwards.

I ended up taking the entire top off. It was so much easier. I had just installed it Tuesday so it should be less of a pain to reinstall than removing the scoop would be without taking the top off

See, now you’re a Miata soft top pro. Put a few ads on Craigslist and Miata.net and watch
the money pour in!

It would take me 1/2 the time the second time around, and probably 1/2 again the third
